I have been hunting South Dakota Pheasants since '99. Certainly, this is the place to be in the fall. I really look forward to the trip each year. I have been hunting with Tom Scott for two seasons, this year will be number three. I must say that it just doesn’t get any better than this. You can pay more but if you are looking for the real deal, Tom will put you “on the birds”. Then, all you have to do is hit them! Ya know how that goes! Tom has a number of locations available so you aren’t hunting the same area over and over. However, some of the areas are so good you will want to hit them again later. Double J Hunts offers some of the finest pheasant hunting in South Dakota. The pheasant numbers are the highest I have seen anywhere in the midwest. The habitat at Double J is ideal to hold and maintain large numbers of pheasant. The terrain is gentle and easy to hunt and a variety of different habitat allows the hunter to vary hunting techniques from the traditional block and drive to using pointing or flushing dogs in CRP or other uncultivated terrain. The pheasant hunting at Double J Hunts was absolutely magnificent! I would not have thought it possible for so many birds to come out of the first field that we hunted. I especially appreciated the organized and efficent way that Tom managed each drive, with a focus on safety and effectiveness. Double J's relationship's with landowners in the area provided an extensive network of land available to hunt as we moved from one excellent area to another in the absolutely ideal habitat for pheasants. Attention to detail was very evident, as the strategy for the day's hunt was discussed over a great breakfast. Blockers, standers and drivers were identified and rotated for maximum efficiency in each area hunted to ensure that each hunter had more than ample opportunity for numerous shots. I went back to Arizona with a full limit of birds, a smile on my face and a warm spot for the new friends that I had made. The folks at Double J go out of their way to provide a quality hunting experience. This was by far the best pheasant hunting I have ever had in my many years afield. Thanks Double J, I'll be back!
